Hiking in Zagreb
If you want to be active while your stay in Zagreb, pack your backpack, put on your hiking shoes and hit the road. Go and climb up to Sljeme, mountain peak 1033 meters high. Nature Park Medvednica, often called the "lungs of the city", is a favourite destination for all nature enthusiast, hikers, cyclists and cyclist. During the hot summer months you can find refreshment while walking on one of the many marked hiking trails in deep forest of Medvednica. In the winter environment you can enjoy in snow covered hills and beautiful frozen forest. Two hour long walk through the forest will help you to you escape from everyday life, to focus you mind and calm your senses. Zagreb residents cannot imagine Zagreb without mountain Medvednica. Go on this fantastic trip and discover the natural pearl close to Zagreb. . In addition to the beautiful nature, on Medvednica you will see the old buildings and Medvedgrad built in the 13th century after the Tatar invasion. You will also see the Altar of the homeland, a monument to the fallen Croatian soldiers in the war.
You can start your hiking from BLIZNEC - the main entrance to the Medvednica Nature Park. The lower terminal of the Sljeme cableway, and start of the one-way road to the summit of Sljeme. There is an exceptionally educational trail from the parking to the Forestry museum "Sawmill Bliznec" modified for handicaped people. The Nature Park office building and the little chapel are located nearby.
